Brief and Objectives,

OwnersBox launched in 2020 as the first socially driven Weekly Fantasy Sports (WFS) platform, combining season-long strategy with short-term rewards in one-week contests. Users draft new lineups each week, compete head-to-head or in tournaments and earn frequent payouts.

The company engaged me to produce three concise explainer videos and one comprehensive platform walkthrough to introduce and demystify its WFS offering for new and returning users.

Creative Approach,

After reviewing OwnersBox's brand guidelines, I developed scripts and loose storyboards alongside their in-house UI designer that emphasized the energy of the platform and new experience for users.

All visual assets were built from scratch: UI, additional font choices, motion graphics and custom transitions (with the exception of licensed 3D models).

This allowed full creative control over timing, style and brand alignment.

Key Challenges and Solutions,

The platform was in beta and its user interface was evolving rapidly. Mid-production UI updates required constant coordination: I tracked version changes, adjusted animations and exported new asset builds without impacting overall timing. This agile process ensured animated sequences always matched the live product up to launch.

Workflow,

The entire project, from initial script draft to final delivery was completed in under six weeks.

Key steps included:

Research & Scripting: Drafted concise narratives for each video.

Storyboarding & Design: Mapped out visual sequences and deconstructed custom graphics from Figma with Photoshop and Illustrator.

Production & Post: Motion designed in After Effects, cut and polished in Premiere Pro and audio treated in Audition.

UI Integration: Collaborated with the internal product team to obtain UI/UX mockups. I deconstructed their Figma files, rebuilt almost all components for animation compatibility in After Effects and ensured everything stayed on-brand.

Revisions: This project was atypical, with rapid turnaround on changes to meet the tight schedule.

Deliverables,

Of the three explainers, two focused on game type: contest format, gameplay mechanics and reward structure and one was used to explain the new weekly contest format. Keeping them as close to :30s as possible.

With a more flexible runtime, the walkthrough demonstrated account setup, lineup creation, live contest navigation, backend and more.

Key Takeaways,

Voice Selection: Choosing a narrator whose tone matched the brand personality was crucial. Casting talent early in the process was important for cohesion.

Sound Design: Integrating dynamic sound effects and music brought motion graphics to life, reinforcing key actions and maintaining viewer engagement.

A streamlined, end-to-end production process balanced creative needs with rapid iterations. Quick adaptations to product changes allowed for timely explainer and walkthrough content that educated users, investors and ultimately supported a successful launch.

Note on Evolution,

While these videos introduced OwnersBox as a weekly fantasy sports platform, the company has since transitioned to a daily fantasy sports model.
